Alert for N.D. residents (especially)

Dear Readers,
A $100,000 study has been proposed to study the creation of horse slaughter houses and rendering plants in North Dakota.
Please stay alert and start looking up the names and email addresses of your legislators!
Best,
Terri

Comments: How would we do that and what would we say? I am all for stopping the slaughter of healthly horses but what about those who butcher lame horses or old ones? They are used to make dogfood still I think.. ick.. but are they included?
*Speak for a world that cannot speak for itself.. the world of horses.

To track down who started horse slaughter and put him or her (if they are still alive) Behind bars where they BELONG? COUNT ME IN!
YAY!!!! bye bye horse slaughter (jumps up and down in joy)
Rach, I loved that quote!!!
That stinks. I was gonna ask what Rach did. How should we find ways to help?
That is so horrible! I hate how they do that!

  Warning:
I'm going to be really blunt here, so don't read this if you're afraid you'll have bad dreams.
Once I thought horses were humanely destroyed at slaughter houses. I still wished horse owners would pay $60 to have a vet put down horses which were having more bad days than good ones them injected and put to sleep, then make half the money back from a renderer who'd pick up the dead horse and take it away.
Then I saw footage of what really happens to horses sold for slaughter.
No being, not chickens, snakes, insects -- NO living thing should be killed this way. Horses are trucked for days without food and water. Conditions are so crowded, many break legs. In double-decker trucks, some break their necks or suffer brain damage.
On arrival, horses are forced down chutes with whips and electrical prods and it gets worse.
Think machetes. Think about paralysis from a spine hacked through. Imagine being lifted, alive but unable to fight back, by hind legs to have their throats cut.
This is not euthanasia. This is cruelty and beyond what any human should tolerate.
I don't believe most horse owners know this is what happens, but why don't they?
Signing off,
Terri
Think I'm making this up?
NO I believe every word of it... do they do it because its the cheapest way? Any human that would physically want to cause pain and suffering to any living being has something wrong with their heart and mind.
>and thanks Jenny I love that quote to. =0)

That's just plain disgusting. How can people who do that and live with themselves? I know you read about bad guys in books who don't care, but is it humanly possible to do that with out feeling disgusted with yourself? there's a special place for people like that, and it's not a happy place. It's called the inside of a jail! Or worse. Didn't God put us on this earth to take care of others? Including animals? Isn't it funny how horses can make their owners big bucks in races (maybe they dont get famous, but the do alright) and the owner sends them to an auction where the get shipped off to slaughter? It's just awful.
I used to imagine setting all the cows free when I saw them in those big trucks going to the slaughter house, it's just awful to imagine horses in those trucks. Why do people do this? Even if they can't afford to put the horse down, I know this sounds gruesome, but wouldn't a quick bullet in the head of an old suffering horse be better then sending a faithful companion off to slaughter?
you wouldn't send your employee off to die that way when he cant make money any more, and you wouldnt send your best friend off that way. people need to think. and take a stand.
  Oh my gosh!
I am in complete and utter shock. I thought they jsut gave them a shot to be put down, then took the meat they have. But, boy, was I wrong. I can't believe the horses actually sit there and can't do anything, as they get their necks cut open. I am still in shock. This is horrible. Who ever works for the horses slaughter houses is a crazed maniac who must like the sight of thing dieing for no reason.
what gets me is that people ate slaughtering horses for no reason sometimes. WILD horse deserve to be left alone. Anyone remember Dark Sunshine in Terri Farley's books? OF COURSE YOU DO! I can imagen horses being terrified, unable to defned themselves. Being killed without mearcy, just slitting their throat.

Sadly horses arnt' the only animals being treated liket his. I watched a few eps of Whale Wars on Animal Planet and the poor wales! Being cut opened while they are STILL BREATHING! Some people are so crule and it makes me sick.
Some slaughter houses in Mexico stab them to death then hang them upsidedown by their feet, slit their throats, and let them bleed to death. Adn most horses are still alive when they are hung upsidedown!!!!!!!!
I believe if they "have" to butcher an animal it should already be dead... as painlessly as possible. I wish this never had to happen but not everyone in the world will look at it the same way. To some buisness is buisness.

I read that in Horses Illistrated Magizene! It is so sad! Just think if you were the horse. You'd probly be scared, confused, crowded, and yet you feel alone. YOu can't move, you can's hear over the sounds of millions of other horses screaming in terror.....Like a horror movie!
It is just disgusting and terrible! HOW could anyone live with themselves after doing that! I also read about Mexican slaughter houses in my Horse Illustrated mag, it's so horrible D: You don't see people sending they're dogs and cats off to a horrific death after they're too old or unwanted, do you? No. So why horses? They're just as much a 'faithful friend' as any pet! I totally agree with Violet, it's like a horror movie.
'How could poeple be so "heartless?
