New Mini-movies
Dear Readers,
I have a cool new feature on the SCHOOL NOTES page of Phantomstallion.com http://phantomstallion.com/guides/index.shtml
and here's how it came to be...
Last winter I saw an online book report done by Laura, a PHANTOM STALLION reader in Hawaii. She attended Seabury Hall school on the island of Maui and Mrs. Linda Lindsay, the school's librarian posted video book reviews to the school's website.
I wrote to the school to thank Laura for her great report and mentioned I'd be sort of in the neighborhood -- on Oahu -- for a booksigning & would love her to come visit.
Mrs. Lindsay wrote back like a flash. In response, I mentioned I'd be working for awhile on a ranch on the Big Island of Hawaii. Then, she and Seabury's headmaster invited me for a school visit and of course I said YES!
It turned into an adventure. I left the ranch at 2 o'clock in the morning to drive (alone) a dark mountain road to the Kona airport. When I say dark, I mean Hawaiian law mandates there can only be a few lights because they interfere with star viewing from Mauna Kea Observatory. One of my Western characters might say, "It was as dark as the inside of a cow!" Plus, I didn't exactly know where I was going.
Still, I made it to the airport (where an airline ticket was waiting for me -- thanks Seabury Hall!) in time to catch my plane. Wearing a cowgirl style coat and boots, I flew from Kona to Honolulu to Maui (three different islands) where librarian Mrs. Lindsay greeted me with hugs, a BEAUTIFUL flower lei and a most welcome cup of coffee.
The drive to school was fun, because Mrs. Lindsay acted as my tour guide and of course librarians know almost everything! When we arrived, I was treated like a friend by Seabury Hall's headmaster, staff, teachers and students!
I had a great time giving my Hooked on Horses workshop, showing my mustang film WILD ONES, autographing books and talking about wild horses, Celtic shape-shifters and books!
