Q & A for Thursday

Q: Do you know where I can adopt a wild horse? I live in ...

A: No matter where you live, you can contact the Bureau of Land Management about wild horse adoptions toll free at 1-866-4MUSTANGS or check out www.wildhorseandburro.blm.gov

Q: Could u please send mea copy of seven tears into the sea? my family really doesn't have a lot of money and i can't buy the book .it looks like a really good book and all but i don't have the money to buy it and when go to get a jod they tell me i'm to young to work . so if you could do that for me i'd love you for it because i really want to read it my address is...

A: Letters like yours tug at my heart. I want everyone to have all the books they want to read -- especially mine!
Sadly, I just can't send books to everyone who asks for them. Still, all is not lost! Most public and school libraries carry my books, and if they don't have them, they can usually borrow them from nearby libraries -- and that's totally free!

Q: I've been wanting to write an adventure book for a long time, but how do I keep my story ideas from becoming like books I've already read? I'm CrAzY about the C.S. Lewis books, Chronicles of Narnia, and every time I try to start something the story seems to keep going back to that series.

A: How about introducing an element on which you are an expert into the story? I bet you can find something C.S. Lewis knew nothing about.
WILD HORSES dragged me into their world and helped me write THE PHANTOM STALLION because I live where they live. I'd been out to watch gathers and had gone to Catttlemen's Association meetings where they talked about wiping them off the range. It's not like no one knew about this, but few people were paying attention and I was.
Maybe you're into belly dancing or you buy amber rings from pawn shops, collect 1920's WANTED posters or do public service work with retired actors. Pick something you know intimately -- something you can describe with all your senses and make that an important part of your plot or your main character's life. It worked for me!
